Dissemination Meeting
The 38th Annual Gathering / 11th AIBD General Conference & Associated Meetings of Asia Pacific  Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD)  in Kathmandu, Nepal

The 11th General Conference (and 38th Annual Gathering) of Asia Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) has been organized in Kathmundu, the capital of Nepal during 25 July to 27 July 2012.Bangladesh has been elected as vice president in this occasion for the tenure of 2012-2014.Mr.Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Betar was awarded Reinhard Keune’s Memorial Award 2012 for one of the radio programs out of 04 categories of awarding in radio and TV Channels.

A dissemination meeting on this occasion was organized at Agargaon Auditorium, Dhaka on July 30. Mr.Kazil Akhtaruddin Ahmed, Director General, Bangladesh Betar presided over the meeting.    

Mr.Manju Rahman, Joint  Secretary (Broadcasting), Ministry of Information, Tawhida Chowdhury, Deputy Director, National Institute of Mass Communication, ,Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Program Manager(Channel I TV), AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer , Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication and Mr. Mostafizur Rahman,the awardee expressed their feeling and idea on future scopes of Community Radio.

In his speech and presentation Mr.Kazi Akhtaruddin Ahmed mentioned that presently Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and NIMC are full members and Channel I is the Associate Member of AIBD. In Executive Board (EXBO) Meeting held on July 25, 2012 at Kathmundu issues like human resource development, AIBD award, Election of EXBO Chairman etc. have been discussed. Emphasis were given on professional capacity development of the managers, program producers and technical experts through training at home and abroad so that they would become able to gear up the process of transforming Betar and TV into digital system from Analogue format. For capacity development emphasis was mostly given on the topics like social media, social responsibility, ethics, and disaster management/risk reduction.

Training demands have been created regarding digitization, satellite broadcasting, internet broadcasting digital archiving and Community Broadcasting. He proposed NIMC to take up the leading role in partnership with AIBD, since NIMC is its full member. He also informed that Mr. Mostafizur Rahman was awarded for his outstanding program production in the theme- Promoting the Green Technology and Sustainable Energy. He has been awarded a trophy, a certificate and 500 US$. In future, all the members need to be essentially involved in such competition. 

He requested channel I and BNNRC to assist in Bengali translation of Bangkok Declaration 2003+10.He informed that Bangladesh will send cultural troop in next AMS to be held in Indonesia in the next year. He gave importance to start working from now on so that Bangladesh would be able to be elected as AIBD EXBO Chairman or President of AIBD General Conference 2014.

Mr. Manju Rahman thanked Bangladesh delegation for their prestigious performance and award on behalf of the Minister and reiterated Ministry support in promoting the related work in future. Ms.Tawhida Chowdhury assured NIMC support in capacity development area.Mr.Sacchu assured Channel I support in Bengali translation process of Bangkok Declaration 2003+10.He also expressed his interest to work in cooperation with Community Radios in Bangladesh.

Mr.AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BNNRC thanked DG for his leadership of the team and gave a crest on behalf of BNNRC. He requested DG and all concerned to come forward to organize a Radio Summit in Bangladesh soon.

It can be mentioned that 70 representatives from 26 countries attended in AIBD Conference. Bangladesh team was headed by DG, Bangladesh Betar. Bangladesh is also invited in the next AIBD Conference to be held in Myanmar on July 2013.
